Michael I. DeBakey was born on June 25, 1982 in York, Pennsylvania, to Michel I. DeBakey and Joan L. DeBakey. In 1992 he moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania where he still resides.

DeBakey graduated with honors from Lampeter-Strasburg High School, Class of 2000. He graduated from Millersville University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Computer Science. He is currently a graduate student at Philadelphia University pursuing a master's degree in Instructional Design and Technology. During his freshman year at Millersville University he started life in the political arena. He has since served as co-president, president, secretary, and publicist of the Millersville University College Republicans. In 2001 he ran for, and was elected to, the office of Inspector of Elections (Maj.) in his voting district. In 2005 he ran for, and was elected to, the office of Judge of Elections.

Ongoing research interests include technology, politics, and their relevance to constitutional principles of limited government. In his spare time, DeBakey's music interests range from Country to Classic Rock to Christian.
